New Jersey Conservation Foundation is a private, non-profit organization. We rely on private philanthropic support and grants from a variety of public and private sector organizations. As a conservation leader, New Jersey Conservation Foundation:
- protects threatened state natural areas and farmland through land acquisition and stewardship
- promotes strong New Jersey land use policies
- forges partnerships to help safeguard our water and other natural resources
Results
Since 1960, New Jersey Conservation Foundation has:
- protected over 100,000 acres of natural areas and farmland – from the Highlands to the Pine Barrens to the Delaware Bay, from farms to forests to urban and suburban parks
- been at the forefront of every key legislative initiative to protect farmland, forests and water quality throughout the state
- provided critical support to hundreds of local conservation partners throughout New Jersey
Land Acquisition & Stewardship
New Jersey Conservation Foundation and its partners preserve thousands of acres of land every year, protecting critical habitat and farmland for public enjoyment and the safeguarding of natural resources.
NJCF’s stewardship staff manages preserved lands through easement monitoring and innovative, long-term management plans. Our strategies include enhancement of biological diversity and habitat, as well as forest restoration.
NJCF has launched a $3 million campaign to secure stewardship funds for the 9,400-acre Franklin Parker Preserve, in the Heart of the Pine Barrens. The Preserve is home to a variety of threatened and endangered plants and animals, including orchids, bald eagles and Pine Barrens tree frogs. You can learn more about the Heart of the Pine Barrens campaign here.
Public Policy
By promoting public policies favoring long-term solutions that combat sprawl and further natural resource conservation at local, state and federal levels, NJCF seeks to guide the way we use our precious lands. We advocate for practical new policies and innovative tools to improve New Jersey’s land use system, protect water quality, ensure healthy communities and support local and statewide land preservation.
Outreach
NJCF has not forgotten its grassroots beginnings and recognizes that the future is brightest when local volunteers engage in land preservation and take ownership of local stewardship. We provide support, training and technical assistance to concerned private citizens, local land trusts and state environmental groups. These groups are the foundation of land preservation in New Jersey. NJCF coordinates New Jersey’s Annual Land Conservation Rally and many community education events throughout the year.
